I’ve been sick this past week! It’s always horrible to be down with the flu and be unable to do anything. I’m still grateful that I was able to focus on getting better and resting rather than worrying about deadlines last week.

Here’s a sketch of a pear pattern I was working on before I fell ill. I also experienced a bad allergic reaction for a couple of days (I’ve never had seasonal allergies before). I wonder if it’s because my immune system was down.

I was also working on a sketch for a personal painting. It’s a blue lion looking at his reflection on the water. I have to transfer it to a wooden panel using a projector, and I’m excited to start working on it this Friday!

A sneak peak of a comic I’m working for Snack Report. It’s about my friendship with J.

More marker drawings! I love hatching the fur details, but I’m lowkey horrified of how the dark furs looks like pubic hair. I want to tell my friend who likes the drawing, but I don’t want to ruin it for her (I love you S).

March 13, 2024

I’ve been feeling burnt out and tired recently, but I got new art supplies to cheer myself up. I also rediscovered some old colored pens, and I think they work well together.

Small update: I added text to test out how it works with the image, and my friends gave me a thumbs up on the combination.

It’s March already! I can’t believe we’re already 1/4 into 2024. I’m still fiddling with the map layout of the traditional house. I still feel like the gouache application will make it harder to read once I add all the text details, but I like it as an illustration.
A sketch of my dad throwing away trash in the rain.
A drawing of my mom and I at the mall wearing the same coat.

I’m behind schedule! I wanted to complete this illustration by the end of this month, but personal things kept coming up (a lot of my family members got food poisoning, my mom sprained her ankles badly, and my friend got married on Valentines day). I have almost all the elements in place, but I want to add some touches to make it glisten. I’ll try to add some pebbles/dirt on the ground, clean up the plant, add benches, and have flowers fluttering around.

Here are some WIP screenshots I took to ask my friends for opinions:

Dress color test (her dress was yellow before)

I’m also in the process of creating a layout map of the traditional house we stayed for our Korea trip. I’m testing different mediums and tools to figure out how to execute the final version. The digital version makes the line too straight, but the gouache painting makes it less readable.

February 28, 2024

I was looking through my photo album and found an image of my friend (HJ) blowing her nose (it was from our trip to Barcelona). I’m not sure who took the photo, but it was shared in our group album.

HJ is currently in South Korea visiting her mother, and she uploaded a video of her family doing karaoke. HJ’s mom, who I’ve known since 7th grade, was hyping herself up for her song, and I found it so endearing.

HJ’s dad is actually visiting us this Sunday, and I need to remember to hand HJ’s book to him.

I made some quick sketches yesterday because I wanted to draw a persimmon themed pattern. I also drew a squirrel and some acorns in the corner, and they became another illustration for my Surface Design section.

It’s always funny to see my chicken scratches become developed in Photoshop, and I can't tell if I'm being lazy or reasonable.
Here is a repeating pattern version.
I was actually yelled by a bird in Korea when I picked a persimmon off the tree. I soon realized that the one I got was half eaten. I must have snagged its snack.

My mom went to Costco this morning and sprained her ankles. Later in the day, we had to go to the acupuncture to soothe her pain (it worked!). During her session, she looked at me and exclaimed that she needed a cake to calm her surprised heart.

We were worried that she hit her head, but it was just her ankles. The doctor told us to come back this Friday for another session, and we returned home safely.

Paper cut outs

Today I made a repeating floral pattern by cutting paper. For this version, I flattened the paper creases, but I want to keep the creases next time. The scissors helped relieve the pressure to draw a perfect flower and made me focus on the process.

Scanned Objects

The eraser is from my recent trip to Barcelona. I scanned it in, and it looked ghostly! I want to use the eraser to see it lose its shape over time and not use it so I can preserve its form.

I also scanned some glass candies I’ve collected in Las Vegas locally, a glass cherry from San Francisco, and the rocks I gathered from Korea.
